56-year-old woman in stopped car dies after struck by another

FHP: Woman was stopped because of previous accident

JACKSONVILLE, Fla. – A 56-year-old St. Augustine woman died early Saturday morning after her disabled car was struck  by another vehicle, according to the Florida Highway Patrol.

The incident happened at 1:25 a.m. in the southbound lanes of I-95 at Mile Marker 335.

According to FHP, a Ford Flex driven by 35-year-old Jason Scales of Anderson, S.C., swerved into the center lane to avoid a piece of debris, striking the side of 56-year-old Yvette Montgomery's Toyota Avalon, which was disabled by a previous crash.

Montgomery was transported to UF Health at Jacksonville, where she was pronounced dead.

Scales and a passenger of the Ford Flex, Jason Pless, were taken to Baptist South with minor injuries.
