VIDEO: Authorities are keeping a tight scene in Bell around the home where the mass shooting occurred because they want to make sure nobody disturbs the scene and channel 4's crime analyst explains why.
Mass murders in families are relatively rare. Still, there have been two similar crimes in our area in the past decade. Channel 4's Jim Piggott revisited those cases and tells us where the convicted killers are now.
Police say the killer's motive may never be known. We are learning more about the man at the center of the murder suicide that left seven others dead. 51-year-old Don Spirit had been arrested at least half a dozen times over the past 20 years and was a convicted felon. He killed his daughter and six of her children.
Like Don Spirit, the killer of his own daughter and 6 grandchildren, illegally obtained the murder weapon. St. Johns County Sheriff's office says many felons use illegally obtain guns and use them to commit more crimes.
