According to the FBI, about 400,000 robberies take place each year in November and December. To keep your home safe this holiday season, follow these tips when making big-gift purchases.

If you purchase a large, expensive gift for someone this year and are storing it in your home, try not to announce the purchase via social media. Also, try not to store the gifts in highly visible places around your home, like in front of a window.

Another tip is to hide the boxes expensive electronics may come in. If you leave the large box on your curb you are alerting everyone who passes your home that you have a brand new electronic. Instead, try to cut the box into smaller pieces and put it inside of your recycling bin.
