Channel 4's viewing area includes four Northeast Florida congressional districts.

Six-term Congressman Ander Crenshaw easily dispatched two Republican opponents in the August primary for the Florida's 4th Congressional District.  Unaffiliated candidate Jim Klauder will challenge Crenshaw on the General Election ballot, and one write-in candidate also qualified in the election for the district, which now covers all of Duval, Nassau and Baker counties.

Ander Crenshaw

PARTY:  Republican

RESIDENCE:  Jacksonville

AGE:  68

FAMILY:  Married 42 years to Kitty Crenshaw, 2 grown daughters, 2 grandchildren

OCCUPATION:  U.S. Congressman since 2001

EDUCATION:  B.A., University of Georgia; J.D., University of Florida

POLITICAL EXPERIENCE:  Member of United States House of Representatives; member of Florida House of Representatives - 1972-1978; member of Florida Senate - 1986-1994; president of the Florida Senate, 1992-1993

WHAT DO YOU SEE AS THE TOP THREE ISSUES IN THIS RACE?
"The three top issues in this election are creating jobs, reigning in federal spending, and getting our economy back on track.

  • "The private sector creates jobs, not Big Government! Washington has forgotten this simple economic principle. More taxation, regulation and bailouts will not create more jobs. To create jobs, I will fight to permanently stop all job-killing tax hikes and untie the hands of America's job creators before the country we know and love is destroyed.
  • "I have worked to put government on a path to a balanced budget and pay down the debt by canceling unspent stimulus dollars and by cutting government spending to pre-stimulus, pre-bailout levels. I have worked to reduce federal discretionary spending by $95 billion since 2010, called for a ban on earmarks and voted for a balanced budget amendment.
  • "Nothing is more important than ensuring future generations are not saddled with the debt of today. I will continue to fight out of control spending and will not support tax increases. Fiscal Year 2012 marks the second year in a row Congress has cut discretionary spending -- the first time in modern history."

HOW DO YOU THINK YOU CAN HELP VOTERS IN A WAY OTHERS IN THIS RACE CAN'T?

  • "I have called Northeast Florida my home all my life, and I raised my family here. I represent the residents of the Fourth Congressional District by voting on principle and by working tirelessly in their best interest each and every day. Because of my work in the House, I have earned a leadership position on key committees that directly impact our community. In addition, I have been tapped by House Leadership to serve as a Deputy Majority Whip. My strongest qualifications for office are my honesty, integrity and desire to serve the people I represent."

WHAT WOULD YOU HOPE TO BE REMEMBERED FOR ACCOMPLISHING AFTER SERVING IN THIS OFFICE?

  • "At the end of the day, I would like to be remembered as a public servant who proudly and humbly served those he represented. Whether it is the hundreds of constituents I have helped with a VA, IRS, Social Security, or military matter; or if it is my fight to restore our military to greatness or bring a veterans cemetery to northeast Florida; or if it's my effort to pass legislation to help disabled Americans save resources for the future, I would like to remembered as someone who represented his constituents with integrity and conviction."

Jim Klauder

PARTY:  No party affiliation

RESIDENCE:  Fernandina Beach

AGE:  70

FAMILY:  Married to Penka Klauder; 4 children, 3 grandchildren

OCCUPATION:  Vice President, Foundation for Teaching Economics

EDUCATION:  Princeton University, graduated with honors, degree in economics

POLITICAL EXPERIENCE:  Elected twice to two four-year terms as a county commissioner in San Juan County, Wash.

WHAT DO YOU SEE AS THE TOP THREE ISSUES IN THIS RACE?

  1. "The 16 trillion dollar (and growing) national debt.
  2. "A dysfunctional congress, unable to cope with fiscal issues but whose members manage to keep on catering to special interests.
  3. "The growing Federal government intrusion into and attempt to control every aspect of citizens' private lives."

HOW DO YOU THINK YOU CAN HELP VOTERS IN A WAY OTHERS IN THIS RACE CAN'T?

  • "I understand the basic laws of economics and can put that knowledge to work in solving the nation's economic problems. I expect my opponent in the November general election will be Ander Crenshaw, a career politician who has been in office too long. He votes, time and time again, to expand federal programs even when those programs are shown not to work."

WHAT WOULD YOU HOPE TO BE REMEMBERED FOR ACCOMPLISHING AFTER SERVING IN THIS OFFICE?

  • "For having kept my campaign promises, for voting in a way that served the interests of the country and not simply a self interest to be re-elected, and for a willingness to work on a common sense basis with any other member of congress to solve serious national problems."
