General assignment reporter
Erica Rakow joined WJXT in April 2012. Before coming to News4Jax, Erica spent two years in the Florida Panhandle, anchoring and producing the weekend newscasts and reporting weeknights at WJHG.
Erica moved to the Gulf Coast two weeks after graduating from college; just days after the massive BP oil spill. There, she covered two presidential visits and the 2011 school board meeting shooting. She also brought the dangers of the synthetic drug bath salts to the attention of local law enforcement and eventually covered Gov. Rick Scott signing a bill making the drug illegal.
Erica is a Florida native. She was born in Miami Beach, grew up in Ft. Lauderdale and graduated from the University of Florida with a Bachelor of Science in Telecommunication and a Minor in Education. In Gainesville, Erica worked as a master control operator at WUFT and eventually worked her way up to anchor of the student-run station's evening newscast. During school, Erica also worked as a general assignment reporter for WCJB TV-20.
When she's not carrying a notepad, microphone or camera, Erica enjoys volunteering with children and animals, spending time with her family, running on the beach, traveling, exploring new parts of towns and restaurants, going to sporting events and concerts and catching up with friends.
If you ever see Erica out and about or driving around, her big dog Skylar will likely be with her, hanging out of her car window.
Erica believes journalism is a window on the world. A window that helps keep people honest, informed and inspired. She enjoys bringing light to important issues that matter to you and your family and welcomes any information or feedback you may have to offer. Just shoot her an e-mail at email@example.com.
