The Jacksonville area is climbing up the national ranks as one of the cities experiencing the most growth in technology jobs in the country.
That's according to a new study published in Forbes magazine measuring software engineering, data processing, science and technology jobs.
If someone takes a look along Jacksonville's skyline, they'll see a city that's keeping up with the times. In fact, Forbes Magazine ranked Jacksonville as No. 6 in the country in technology sector job growth.
"Just about every job in every company depends on technology, doesn't it?" said Karen Mathis, managing editor of the Financial News and Daily Record. "It's not a surprise."
Mathis said it's the kind of attention Jacksonville needs.
Jacksonville has seen a 72.4 percent jump in high-tech employment in the last decade, and 17.4 percent growth in STEM jobs, which involve science, technology, engineering and mathematics.
Locally, there are corporations like Lender Processing Services, Fidelity National Financial, EverBank and Suntrust just to name a few.
Statewide tech jobs have increased by 10 percent, and the River City is keeping up with the pace.
"Jacksonville wants to bring the creative workforce to Jacksonville. We want to keep the young creative workforce in Jacksonville, bring young people back to Jacksonville or to train people for the jobs," Mathis said. "If Jacksonville is known as a place for those jobs it will just draw more people here."
