JACKSONVILLE, Fla. -

Detectives spent Sunday night investigating the shooting death of an alleged robber by his intended victim outside an Arlington apartment.

Police said a man called 911 at 11:45 p.m. and said two men had tried to rob him and he shot one of them.

When police arrived at the Summer Oaks Apartments, they found 20-year-old Robert Pinkney dead in the parking lot. Investigators said a gun was found lying next to the body.

The second man took off and was still at large, police told Channel 4's Nikki Preede.

Detectives interviewed the intended victim and several witnesses. They said the shooting appeared to be a case of self-defense, but they were still investigating.

Anyone with any information about the shooting or the second man who ran from the scene is asked to call Crimestoppers at 866-845-TIPS.
