ST. JOHNS COUNTY, Fla. -

Joseph Roberts has pleaded not guilty in the killing of Ponte Vedra Beach woman Brittany Tavar.

Roberts, 26, was scheduled to be in court Monday for his arraignment, but his lawyer entered the written not-guilty plea on his behalf.

Investigators said Roberts killed Tavar in July after an argument.

They said Roberts was a transient who had been living with Tavar at her home.

Investigators said they found her body in October after Roberts confessed to killing the 45-year-old.

Roberts was arrested in Seattle on a shoplifting charge, and Tavar's remains were found days later.
