Weather producer, meteorologist
Howdy! That's a common greeting from the land where Blake Mathews originates.
Blake comes to Jacksonville from Houston and joined the WJXT Channel 4 team in December 2011.
Blake got his start in weather while still attending college at Texas A&M University (Gig' Em!). He worked as both the morning and weekend meteorologist at KBTX in Bryan, Texas, where he went from rookie to seasoned in two years time.
"I've been fortunate (or cursed) to be on the air during every single weather disaster possible from Hurricane Ike in 2008 to floods, fires, tornadoes and yes, even snow and ice."
Blake's next stop took him back to his home town of Houston, where he worked at sister station KPRC -- this time working more of the news side of things. After 11 months there, the passion to get back to what he knows and loves persuaded him to make the move to Jacksonville.
"I never thought I'd ever live in Florida, but here I am and it is fabulous!"
When Blake is not at work forecasting the weather, you can find him doing a host of other activities. Not only does he like cold fronts, but he loves working out, a daily routine, as well as meeting new people.
Blake is very passionate about his university and considers other Aggies family. He claims to be a great bowler (190 average) and has an uncanny ability to impersonate cartoon character voices, as well as politicians. (We need to get this guy another hobby!)
