What to expect from liposuction

In areas of the body where fat tends to gather (such as the abdomen, hips, thighs or buttocks), liposuction may be done to rid the body of excessive fat. 

 

The fat is typically removed from the specified area through a tube that removes the fat during a surgical procedure. Experts warn that liposuction isn’t the best option if you are in need of overall weight loss, but works better on people who only have large fat deposits in certain parts of their body.

 

After the procedure, the Mayo Clinic states that patients may experience swelling for several weeks. Over time, the treated area should appear leaner.
