When buying home insurance, the most important part of the home to ensure is its structure.

Coverage of your structure should cover damage to your home in case of a fire or storm. Some other disasters that damage your home are also covered under this.

When insuring your home’s structure it is recommended that you cover it for the cost of what it would take to rebuild it.  This way, if you lose your entire home in a fire, you will be able to afford to rebuild it. Determining how much it will cost to rebuild your home can be determined by a home builder.

Take note that a basic policy on your home’s structure does not cover against events like a flood or an earthquake.
