DETROIT -

There’s no doubt the Corolla compact sedan is a big part of Toyota’s sales strategy, and on Monday, the company showed off a concept hinting at what the next generation of Corolla will look like.

The concept is the Corolla Furia and it debuted at the 2013 North American International Auto Show.  Under the bright paint and behind the concept-only headlights, you’re looking at the next Corolla, which will likely be a 2014 model car.

“The Corolla Furia Concept is an early indicator of where our compact car design may lead in the future,” said Bill Fay, group vice president and general manager of the Toyota Division. “It blends a heightened emphasis on dramatic design and modern elements of high technology to generate curb appeal that will surprise a lot of people.”

Though the concept is only 2 inches longer than the current Corolla, the wheelbase is 4 inches longer, which is bound to improve the ride and rear-seat legroom.

Cool touches like the carbon fiber accents and huge 19-inch wheels will likely not make it into the next production Corolla.  However, the overall shape is something you will likely see in Toyota dealerships in the near future.
