CHICAGO -

Subaru has big plans for its big sedan, which is why the company showed off an all-new version of the Legacy Thursday at the Chicago Auto Show.

At first glance, the car is more conservatively styled while echoing the modern design elements common in many current sedans. Those elements include things like a slightly steeper windshield and rear window lines.

The new Legacy also adopts some of the more aggressive styling of its smaller sibling, the WRX sedan.

Powering the new sedan are two engine choices. There’s a 4-cylinder mill good for 175 horsepower, or a 6-cylinder powerplant that cranks out 256 horsepower.

As a Subaru, safety and rugged capability are important. That’s why the new car comes with standard all-wheel-drive and an intricate camera setup that incorporates a blind-spot warning system, lane-change assistance and cross-traffic warning system that can alert the driver about traffic around the corner of a blind spot.

Prices for the new car will be announced closer to the date it goes on sale this summer.
