A 9-year-old girl in Chicago used what she saw on TV to help deliver her baby sister.

Alyssa Meza was at home when her mother went into labor two weeks early in the city's Little Village neighborhood on Sunday, Chicago TV station WLS reported.

Her mother said she could feel the baby coming.

Alyssa, who wants to be a paramedic when she grows up, helped catch her baby sister as she came out.

She told Chicago TV station WFLD she wrapped the baby in a towel and even helped cut the umbilical cord with a neighbor.

Alyssa's mother and baby Aaliyah were released from the hospital on New Year's Day.
