Fire destroys home, jumps A1A in Flagler County

High winds spread fire in Beverly Beach

BEVERLY BEACH, Fla. – Flagler County fire officials said a fire destroyed a two-story home on A1A north of Beverly Beach on Sunday afternoon. The flames were blown across A1A before firefighters brought the fire under control.

Officials said the fire in the 3600 block of A1A started about 3:15 p.m.  When firefighters arrived on scene, they found the home fully engulfed, with high winds fanning the flames.

Due to 40 mph winds, officials said the flames jumped A1A into a brush area and began burning towards the Intracoastal Waterway.  Flagler County Fire Chief Don Petito said the fire burned about two acres in Painter's Hill and about an acre in Island Estates before it was brought under control.

Officials don't yet know what started the fire.

"We don't have any eyewitnesses. When we got on scene it was totally engulfed," Petito told Flagler Live. "And there was nobody here. So we're going to do the investigation, call the state fire marshal out."
