JACKSONVILLE, Fla. – One person is dead and another is hospitalized after a crash on JTB near Kernan Boulevard South around 2 a.m..
According to Jacksonville Beach Police Department, the driver lost control and crashed into the wooded area near Sanctuary Boulevard on ramp. Three people were in the car, including the driver, at the time of the crash.

The driver identified as Billy Joe Pate III was pronounced dead at the scene. The person in the front passenger side identified as Joseph Gaines was life-flighted to UF Health. The passenger is currently in critical condition.
Jacksonville Beach Police Department is investigating. According to the department, toxicology results are pending.
