Police say a 16-year-old student fell or jumped out the emergency door at the back of a moving school bus.
The bus was towed off the Intracoastal Waterway bridge and the westbound lanes of Beach Boulevard at the bridge reopened about 10:30 a.m.
After the students were questioned by police, they were either released to their parents or continued on to their schools on another bus.
We're told the incident happened about 6:45 a.m. and the patient was transported to Shands Jacksonville Medical Center by helicopter.
Traffic was stopped for nearly 4 hours, though the bridge is clear now.
The name and condition of the boy were not released.
