COLUMBIA COUNTY, Fla. -

A 19-year-old motorcyclist was killed in a crash Tuesday morning in Columbia County, according to the Florida Highway Patrol.

State troopers said Jake Hansen, of Branford, was riding north on State Road 47 about 10:20 a.m. and a Jeep Wrangler was also heading north several vehicles ahead of Hansen.

Troopers said Hansen began to pass the other vehicles as the driver of the Jeep, 51-year-old Rafael Comesana of Fort White, was turning left onto Southwest Sunview Street.

The motorcycle struck the Jeep on its left side. Hansen was thrown from the motorcycle into a wire fence on the north side of the street, troopers said.

Hansen was taken to Lake City Medical Center, where he died.

Comensana and a passenger were not hurt.

Troopers said charges are pending.
