A pilot and passenger were killed when their small plane crashed as they filmed a zombie movie in Central Florida, officials say.

SUMMERFIELD, Fla. -

Two people were killed Sunday night when their small plane crashed as they filmed a zombie movie near Ocala, officials said.

Marion County sheriff's officials said they were called around 7:30 p.m. to Monroe Airpark at Southeast 140th Street in Summerfield for reports of a downed plane.

A Sheriff's Office representative later confirmed that the pilot and a passenger were killed.

Officials said the plane was a small, two-seater, single-engine aircraft that was reportedly being used in a low-budget zombie movie that was filming in the area.

Witnesses said after a banking turn over the film site, the engine stalled and the plane went down nose-first.

FAA officials said the plane was a Van's RV-7 amateur aircraft, which is sold in kits for people to build themselves.

The identities of the victims have not been released.

The FAA is expected to be at the airpark Monday morning to start its investigation.
