2 hospitalized, 1 critical after Southside house fire

Dog dies in blaze

JACKSONVILLE, Fla. – Two people hospitalized, one in critical condition, after a fire broke out in a Southside home Thursday afternoon, according to Jacksonville Fire-Rescue.

Firefighters were called to the home on Mills Road off Parental Home Road just after 1 p.m.

Three adults were outside the house when firefighters arrived, and crews found heavy smoke and worked to put the fire out.

An elderly man was taken to UF Health Jacksonville in critical condition, according to JFRD. A woman went to Memorial Hospital with non-life-threatening injuries.

The occupants managed to get one of theirs dogs out, but a second dog died in the fire.

The State Fire Marshal was called to investigate the cause of the fire.
