KEYSVILLE, Ga. -

Fire Investigators with Insurance and Safety Fire Commissioner Ralph Hudgens’ office are investigating a Sunday evening house fire that claimed the lives of a Burke County couple.

The fire, which occurred around 8:30 p.m., killed Eddie James Waltower, 62 and his wife Sarah Waltower, 60.

The house, on Phillips Street in Keysville, was heavily damaged. Keysville is located about 15 miles southwest of Augusta.

“The initial investigation revealed that the fire originated on the rear porch of the residence near a freezer,” Hudgens said. “We have not found anything suspicious about this tragic fire.”

Both victims were transported to the state crime lab for autopsies.

Hudgens said fire Investigators from his office were assisted by Burke County Emergency Management and the Burke County Sheriff’s office.

So far in 2013, there have been 56 fire fatalities reported in Georgia.
