2 men sentenced in 2012 murder

John Buskager, Joseph Thompson sentenced Tuesday

GREEN COVE SPRINGS, Fla. – Two men were sentenced Tuesday in the 2012 murder and robbery of 49-year-old Andrew Stiekman.

According to the state attorney's office, 23-year-old John Buskager and his co-defendant, Joseph Thompson, robbed Stiekman before strangling him to death.

Police found Stiekman dead in a motel room at the Rodeway Inn in Orange Park. His wallet, cellphone and van were all missing from the crime scene.

Officials later found text messages which showed that Buskager and Thompson, who were once roommates with Stiekman, planned the robbery and murder for weeks.

Buskager received 33 years for the second degree murder of Stiekman, as well as 30 years for robbery. The sentences will run concurrently.

Thompson, who pleaded guilty, was sentenced to life in prison on charges of first degree murder, conspiracy to commit murder, robbery and burglary of an occupied dwelling.
