Benson had just pulled him over for not wearing a seat belt when Goins began firing, police said.

Goins is charged with attempted murder and possession of a firearm by a convicted felon.

Meanwhile, investigators said 23-year-old Devon Spencer (pictured below) fired at Officer Clifford Sames, who was investigating a hit-and-run crash last month in the Moncrief area.

Devon Spencer appears in court.

Spencer has been charged with possession of a firearm by a convicted felon.

Spencer's lawyer insists police arrested the wrong man in the case. He said Spencer didn't fire any shots at the officer and instead ran from the scene and hid in a shed, bleeding from two gunshot wounds.

Spencer's lawyer said when Spencer was tested for gunshot residue after his arrest, it was negative.

Both suspects are expected back in court June 10.
