JACKSONVILLE, Fla. -

A fight broke out among a large group of people at an apartment complex on the Northside on Thursday afternoon, which led to shots being fired and a woman hospitalized with life-threatening injuries, according to the Jacksonville Sheriff's Office.

Police said the shooting happened at Roosevelt Gardens Apartments in the 700 block of North Lincoln Court just after 4 p.m.

Investigators said four men fled the scene in a car, and police said they stopped that car in the 2900 block of Fitzgerald Street on the Westside.

Two of the men were taken into custody there, one of whom had been shot in the back.

He and the woman were both taken to Shands Jacksonville Medical Center.

The other two men in the car fled on foot, police said.

Investigators said they don't know what the fight was about.
