CRESCENT CITY, Fla. -

A 3-year-old died in a crash in Putnam County on Sunday morning.

It happened on U.S. 17 at Clifton Road near Crescent City around 9 a.m.

Troopers said Gerard Buchan, 74, was driving a 1999 Ford Explorer westbound on Clifton Rd. when he stopped at a stop sign. When he started moving again, he didn't yield to a Dodge Caravan, according to the Florida Highway Patrol report. The vehicles crashed in the intersection.

Ashley Thomas, 29, was driving the Caravan and sustained serious injuries.

Five children aged 3 months to 7 years old were in the Caravan and two were ejected.  Nayana Thomas, 3, died in the crash. All the other children sustained minor injuries.

Charges are pending and speed wasn't a factor, according to the report.
