OSSABAW ISLAND, Ga. -

Three commercial fishermen are facing charges of illegally trawling for shrimp off Ossabaw Island after state rangers boarded their vessel and seized 708 pounds of shrimp.

The Savannah Morning News reported that the fishermen were apprehended by Georgia Department of Natural Resources rangers. They are accused of trawling for shrimp in closed waters Saturday morning off Ossabaw Island.

Commercial shrimp season doesn't open until June 10.

Authorities said the confiscated shrimp has a commercial market value of $3,577. The DNR declined to identify the 44-foot shrimp boat.
