PALM COAST, Fla. -

A 78-year-old bicyclist is in critical condition after being hit by a car Thursday morning in Palm Coast, according to the Florida Highway Patrol.

State troopers said Bertram Ralph was riding north on Belle Terre Parkway on the west sidewalk about 6:20 a.m. When Ralph entered the crosswalk at Pine Lakes Parkway, the driver of a car heading north on Belle Terre didn't see the bicyclist and tried to turn left onto Pine Lakes, troopers said.

Ralph was struck and thrown from the bike. Ralph was flown to Halifax Trauma Center.

Troopers said charges are pending and their investigation is ongoing.
