ST. AUGUSTINE BEACH, Fla. – Parents are reacting to the fact that several St. Augustine Beach restaurants and store clerks knowingly sold alcohol to underage teens.
The majority of the offenses happened along the A1A Beach Boulevard strip.
"I think it's kind of scary," said local mother, Patty Domenick.
Domenick is talking about the people who were recently arrested in St. Johns County for selling alcohol to minors.
"I think it's outrageous," said Doug Sportel.
"That's insane not taking very good responsibility for the job," said Domenick. "I think they should be fired if they do that."
Deputies said they set up a two day undercover operation with the Prevention Coalition Group called PACT, Prevention Advocacy Choices and Teenagers.
This week, teenagers attempted to buy alcohol and show their real ID. Deputies said 8 clerks gave the teens alcohol anyway, two clerks didn't even ask for ID and all were charged with serving alcohol to a person under 21.
"It's terrible I think we have seen in society how destructive alcohol can be and when minors are dealing with it, it's even worse," said Sportel.
PACT Coalition Coordinator, LeAnn Daddario and her group aim to prevent teenagers having alcohol.
"I think there is a learning opportunity here, I think that the coalition could go back to those establishments that sold to minors and offer responsible beverage training," said Daddario.
There was some good news out of the operation, out of the 37 restaurants PACT scanned, 27 passed the test.
"We are excited about that, means most of them are doing the job they should be doing," said Daddario.
