Columbus police are charging a 92-year-old man with murder in the stabbing death of his wife.

Noel Morgan pleaded not guilty during his first court appearance Saturday in the slaying of his 90-year-old wife, Annie Morgan. A judge ordered him to remain jailed without bond.

During the hearing, Morgan was seated in a wheelchair because he was frail and unable to stand for a period of time.

The Ledger-Enquirer reports police arrested the husband late Friday, two days after paramedics were called to his apartment and found his wife with a possible stab wound to her chest. An autopsy concluded her aorta had been punctured by a sharp object, possibly a mail opener.

It was not known Saturday whether Noel Morgan had a defense attorney.
