LAKE CITY, Fla. -

A bank robbery suspect was arrested just two blocks away from the crime scene when a trooper saw red smoke coming out of his duffle bag, police said.

According to Lake City police, Domingo Castro, 60, robbed the TD Bank on the corner of Northwest Main Boulevard and Northwest Madison Street at about 2:50 pm. Thursday.

Authorities said Castro gave the cashier a note that allegedly said he had a gun and was going to rob the bank.

The suspect is accused fleeing the scene on foot after stuffing the stolen cash in his duffle bag.

Police said trooper Sheila Walker was leaving Columbia County Courthouse when she saw red smoke coming out of Castro's bag as he headed west on Northwest Madison Street.

That's when authorities said Walker nabbed Castro and called for assistance from the Florida Highway Patrol.

Castro was arrested after bank employees identified him as the robber, police said.

Castro was booked at the Columbia County Detention Center without bail. Police said he was released from prison on Sept. 15 after serving a previous sentence related to a Manatee County robbery in 2005.
