Bolles 8th-grader wins national writing contest

JACKSONVILLE, Fla. -

A Bolles School student has won first place in the middle school exposition division of the national 2013 Writing Conference Inc. contest.

Eighth-grader Graham Ungrady, a Ponte Vedra Beach resident, won with his piece titled "Fear Versus Courage."

There were three first-place winners in the exposition category to be announced -- the others from Pennsylvania and California.

Ungrady was the only first, second or third place winner from Florida listed in the exposition category.

As a first place winner, Ungrady receives a plaque honoring his winning entry and an opportunity to be published in the April iissue of Writers’ Slate, an online publication produced by the Writing Conference Inc.

Ungrady also was asked to attend the 2013 Literature Festival in October, which will be held at the University of Kansas in Lawrence, Kansas.

The Writing Conference Inc. sponsors writing contests in poetry, narration, and exposition for elementary, junior high/middle school and high school students.
