The Center for Disease Control is warning people about the flu this year as officials say this season is shaping up to be one of the more severe in recent years.
The CDC says those who haven't received their flu vaccine yet might want to take consider getting it soon.
In the last week of December flu was widespread in 41 states; flu-related child and infant deaths climbed to 18 and outpatient visits for flu symptoms had jumped to 5.6 percent.
"We are very full and our Julington Creek emergency department is also full," said Amy Riley, a nurse.
Riley said they are seeing more and more people walking into Memorial Hospital with the flu.
"In general, it does seem like we have more than we typically see, especially this time of year," said Riley.
Riley said if you can avoid people who have symptoms, it's a good idea, but if you can't, take precautions.
"Keep a distance as best you can," said Riley. "Wash your hands if family member, don't eat or drink after someone and safe distance, several feet."
