JACKSONVILLE, Fla. -

A girl was critically injured late Wednesday night when she was hit by a car  on Atlantic Boulevard near Art Museum Drive, according to the Jacksonville Sheriff's Office.

Officers said before she was hit, the girl was fighting with people in a vehicle.  She got out of that car and began walking toward the median when another car hit her, according to investigators.  Officers say that vehicle was traveling about 40 mph.

The girl sustained life-threatening injuries and was taken to a local hospital.  The girl's age and name was not released early Thursday morning.

The victim was considered at-fault because she was walking on a major road, according to JSO.
