Car strikes bicyclist on Atlantic Blvd. at University Blvd.

JACKSONVILLE, Fla. -

A bicyclist was left in critical condition after a crash late Sunday night, according to the Florida Highway Patrol.

Joseph Straniti, 49, crossed westbound lanes of Atlantic Boulevard near University Boulevard into the path of a silver Mazda, according to the FHP report.

Troopers said Straniti was ejected onto the roadway and transported to Shands Jacksonville Medical Center in critical condition. Kendall Johnson, 22, who was driving the car, was not hurt, according to troopers.

Charges are pending, according to the FHP report.
