Channel 4 wins 7 Florida AP awards

ORLANDO, Fla. -

Channel 4 was honored Saturday night as best overall medium-market TV news station by the Florida Associated Press Broadcasters at a banquet in Orlando.

WJXT also won top honors for best breaking news for reporting on the 2011 wildfires and best series reporting for Mary Baer's stories of a young transplant recipient's family meeting for the first time with the family whose loss made the organ's available.

The station was also a finalist in three other categories: best newscast, website, continuing coverage. Reporter Jim Piggott was also named a finalist in the Florida AP's individual achievement category.
