Leo Charles Bettey Jr., 66, was sentenced to life in prison Thursday morning for sexually abusing two young girls, according to the state attorney's office.

Bettey was convicted earlier this month on four counts of sexual battery.  The victims, ages 5 and 7, were abused between 2010 and 2012.

Authorities were alerted to the abuse after a victim told her mother that Bettey inappropriately touched her.

Assistant State Attorney T.J. Bryant prosecuted the case.
