PUTNAM COUNTY, Fla. -

A Putnam County couple whose horse was found to be 300 pounds underweight pleaded no contest Tuesday.

Randy and Mary Curtis both received five years of probation with two special conditions. The first special condition is that they spend 150 days in the Putnam County jail. The second condition is that they not own or be in custody of any horses during their five years of probation.

Both pleaded as charged to two counts of cruelty to animals.

Investigators say the couple asked a veterinarian to euthanize one of their horses in April. That horse had been underweight.

The other horse was found in distress in July, when the owners weren't home, and a vet had to put down the horse because it was also dramatically underweight.
