DNA confirms bones belonged to missing baby
DNA testing has confirmed that bones found in the backyard of a South Florida home belong to a missing baby who was presumed dead.
Hallandale Beach police reported Friday that the bones belonged to Dontrell Melvin, who was last seen in 2011 when he was 5 months old.
Police arrested Dontrell's parents, 21-year-old Brittney Sierra and 27-year-old Calvin Melvin, in January after officials realized the child had been missing for 18 months. Both parents remain jailed on child neglect charges, but neither has been charged with Dontrell's death.
The Miami Herald reports that state child welfare officials have taken Sierra's two remaining children - one of whom was also fathered by Melvin - and four other children that had been living at their home and placed them in state custody.
