PUTNAM COUNTY, Fla. -

Two Pomona Park women have been charged with attempting to smuggle illegal narcotics into the Putnam County jail.

The charges are the result of a criminal investigation initiated after narcotics were found in mail intended for a Putnam County jail inmate, deputies said. During a routine screening of all incoming and outgoing inmate mail, correctional officers said they found illegal narcotics in multiple pieces of mail to one particular inmate.

Brandy Canto, 27, an inmate in the jail, was charged Monday with attempting to have narcotics smuggled into the jail. Her bond was set at $6,012.

On Tuesday, 24 year-old Kayla Strickland was arrested and charged with sending/delivering illegal narcotics into the jail. Her bond was set at 10,762.
