JACKSONVILLE, Fla. -

The Duval County School Board on Monday evening will consider two applications for charter schools.

Board members were considering six applications, but four that had already been recommended for approval were withdrawn. They were Scholar Preparatory Academy K-8 and Valor Academy of Leadership elementary, middle and high schools.

The two applications being considered have been recommended for denial. They are Stephen Biko High School and Innovations Middle Charter School.

Under state law, charter school groups that are denied by school boards can appeal to the state of Florida Education Commission.

There are currently 21 charter schools in Duval County.
