JACKSONVILLE, Fla. -

Wednesday marks one year since Episcopal School of Jacksonville lost its head of school in a murder-suicide, and the school will mark the occasion by dedicating a special memorial.

Dale Regan was shot and killed in her office on March 6, 2012.

Police said a fired teacher, Shane Schumerth, killed her, before killing himself.

Regan had been at the school for more than 30 years, teaching and working in the guidance office before becoming head of school.

The school has now built the Dale D. Regan Plaza around the school's Great Oak, which is hundreds of years old.

The tree was important to Regan and was a special gathering place for her and her sons.

Channel 4 will be on hand as the school dedicates the memorial.
