A retired hospital executive has been sentenced to serve two years in prison after he was convicted on charges of Medicare and Medicaid fraud.
Ken Beverly, former chief executive officer of Archbold Medical Center in Thomasville, was convicted in December 2010. He was also ordered Thursday to pay a $50,000 fine and his prison sentence is to be followed by a three-year supervised release period.
The Albany Herald reports Beverly's attorneys say they will appeal his sentence. Defense lawyers argued for a sentence without jail time, asking the judge to consider his positive impact on the community and the 66-year-old's family.
Beverly left Archbold with $6 million in compensation and benefits that he would not have received had he been convicted first.
