JACKSONVILLE, Fla. -

The Florida Highway Patrol says a man is dead after being hit by a pickup truck while riding his bicycle.

FHP said the accident occurred Tuesday evening at the corner of St. Johns Bluff and Atlantic Boulevard.

FHP officer Waxler Bright said two bicyclists were riding on the shoulder of the road Tuesday evening when the man was hit by a Chevrolet pickup.

The name of the 46-year-old bicyclist from Jacksonville who was killed was not released pending notification of immediate family.

Authorities said the second bicyclist, a woman, was not hurt.

According to the FHP report, charges are pending.

Bright said the accident is a reminder for bicyclists to wear light clothing, be aware of the traffic and remain cautious at all times when driving.
