MIAMI -

Federal health officials say the state owes them more than $12 million in Medicaid overpayments.

The feds released a report Friday that says the Florida Department of Children and Families identified $22.3 million in Medicaid overpayments between 2007 and 2010, but noted the department had only collected $4 million.

The report says the state Agency for Health Care Administration owes federal health officials $12.2 million.

The report by the Department of Health and Human Services inspector general notes the state did not return any of the collected funds to the federal government.

State officials did not immediately comment Friday.
