JACKSONVILLE, Fla. -

Dontay Lester, 29, was sentenced to life in prison Thursday afternoon for his involvement in a 2009 shooting. Last month, Lester was convicted on charges of attempted murder in the first-degree, armed robbery and possession of a firearm by a convicted felon.

In July 2009, Lester met John Albritton at Club Cash on University Boulevard. Shortly after meeting, the two men decided to leave the club and buy cigars. As Lester and Albritton were driving back to Club Cash, Lester pulled out a gun and robbed Albritton. Lester then shot Albritton three times in the chest and once in the arm.

Lester was spotted at Club Cash days after the incident and was arrested by the Jacksonville Sheriff’s Office. Lester was wearing jewelry he took from the victim at the time of his arrest.

Lester is a habitual felony offender with convictions for fleeing or attempting to elude a law enforcement officer and carjacking. Lester has been designated a prison release re-offender having committed this crime within three years of being released from prison.
