FLAGLER COUNTY, Fla. -

A Flagler County Sheriff's Office civilian employee has been arrested and charged with misuse of public office, a third-degree felony, Undersheriff Rick Staly announced Friday.

Sheriff James Manfre ordered an investigation on Tuesday after information was received that there may have been an unlawful release of information on Sept. 20 involving an active investigation of Elizabeth Cretella's son, deputies said.

"Sheriff's Office employees are entrusted to maintain confidentiality and to not release confidential information that could impede a criminal investigation," Staly said. "Sheriff Manfre was elected on a commitment to return integrity to the Sheriff's Office, and violations of the law and our policies will not be tolerated."

Cretella was arrested on a Flagler County warrant at her home in Edgewater by the Volusia County Sheriff's Office and booked into the Volusia County jail with bail set at $2,000.

The investigation is ongoing, deputies said.

Cretella has been an employee of the Sheriff's Office since 2006 and was assigned to the Accreditation Unit, where she was responsible for ensuring compliance with agency policies. Cretella was immediately suspended without pay.
