Some passengers are stranded here in Jacksonville after several flights were canceled at JEA due to the harsh conditions of Sandy.

JACKSONVILLE, Fla. -

Some flights at Jacksonville International Airport have been canceled because of a winter storm hitting much of the country Thursday.

United Airlines canceled flights into Chicago. Airport staff were making arrangements for travelers to catch later flights.

It's frustrating, but some are trying to make the best of it.

"Flights are coming in but nothing is going back," said Don Reynolds, whose flight was canceled at JIA. "I guess they want to clear the runway to make room for snow equipment. I got a flight in the morning and hopefully I will get out then. I been here four weeks without a day off work. Trying to get home.

Travelers are encouraged to call ahead and check with their airlines or check flights at www.flyjax.com.
