The Gainesville Police Department is investigating a home invasion robbery in which shots were fired just before midnight.
Police said they received multiple 911 calls about a person shot in the 4300 block of Northwest 35th Terrace late Tuesday night.
Officers arrived and determined that the victim, a 30-year-old man, had been shot in the right thigh. His injuries were non-life-threatening, and he was taken to Shands Hospital.
The victim told police two men kicked in the front door of his home, then one of the men shot him. The men then fled the area in a tan sedan, police said.
One of the men was wearing a red shirt with a red bandana covering his face. Police said there was no additional description of the men.
Police said their preliminary investigation revealed the home invasion robbery is likely drug related. They said as officers cleared the home, a strong odor of cannabis was coming from the master bedroom and closet.
"If this incident is in fact drug related, any person involved may face charges," GPD Chief Tony Jones said.
GPD investigators encourage anyone with information about the home invasion to contact the Criminal Investigations Bureau at 352-393-7670 or Crime Stoppers at 352-372-STOP.
Police said they're working to find the men involved. They believe the men specifically targeted the home, and police said officers will increase patrols in that area.
