OAKLAND PARK, Fla. -

A 5-year-old girl remains in critical condition Saturday after she fell out of her 7th-floor bedroom window, according to the Broward County Sheriff's Office.

The accident happened at the Bridgewater Place apartment complex in Oakland Park.

Investigators say two adults and two other children were inside at the time when the victim's 8-year-old brother went to check on his sister. That's when he found her walking along a window sill near her bunk bed. As she was walking back toward her bed, she fell into a window screen, tumbling seven stories to the ground.

The little girl was taken to Broward Medical Center.

Investigators say she landed on a patch of grass. They noted a palm tree, concrete sidewalk, and a fence just steps away, indicating how much worse the impact could have been.

The Department of Children and Families is investigating this incident.
