CANTON, Ga. -

Sheriff's officials in Cherokee County say they're searching for a driver who hit a crossing guard and fled the scene.

Sheriff's spokesman Lt. Jay Baker says a crossing guard directing traffic at Liberty Elementary School was hit by a car that fled northbound on Bells Ferry Road Monday afternoon in Canton.

Baker says the car is described as a silver Honda Prelude being driven by a white man wearing a black hat, a black shirt and sunglasses. Baker says the car's back window has a large "T'' sticker on it.

Baker says the unidentified crossing guard was taken to Northside Cherokee Hospital with non-life threatening injuries.
